As I sit here writing this note on my back porch in the early morning cool of Autumn the COVID numbers are ticking up again and things are slowly beginning to shut down. All Saints is anticipating a move back into the school, which we are pleased will allow us to keep meeting on Sunday mornings, but which presents the possibility of being “homeless” again if the school needs to shut down. The leadership of the church rejoices that we have clung together as a congregation through this time, and for that we give thanks to God.

In the midst of all the troubles in the world today, however, there is at least one take away for the Christian. This fallen world is a mess and desperately needs to be made new. Thanks be to God that in Christ Jesus he has promised to do just this. One of the advantages of being a Christian in such a world is the knowledge and even strong conviction that it will not always be so. We lean forward into the day of Christ’s return. We live expectantly. We cry out with John in Revelation 22, “Amen! Come Lord Jesus!”

So, in these troubled days, cling to the promises of God and remember the words of Christ in Revelation, “Behold, I make all things new.” In a little less than two weeks we will enter into the season of Advent. In Advent we remember the first coming of Christ and look forward intentionally to the second coming. It’s never a bad idea to take time to focus on particular truths of Scripture and we do so joyfully in Advent. However, the season should be a reminder that this is always our posture in the world. We do not deny the trouble in the world, but we live in and through it with the absolute certain hope that Christ is coming again and he will put all things right. Indeed, he has already begun - and we are his workmanship, created for good works in Christ Jesus.

So hang in there, Saints! If you need help, please reach out to your elder or a pastor! We are in this together, sons and daughters of the King, awaiting the return of our victorious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

So, whatever the coming days (or weeks!) bring in terms of a decision. Don’t despair if allseems lost because your candidate lost. Don’t rejoice if all seems secure because your candidate won. Our hope is in the Lord!

Your fellow servant of Christ,
Pastor Matt
